‘Why Europe must take a different path – and how we can save the digital future’

Imagine:

• A world in which every person – whether illiterate or a scientist – can develop their individual strengths because digital tools do not create dependency, but empower.
• A society in which AI does not manipulate, but promotes the uniqueness of each individual.
• A Europe that is not controlled remotely by US corporations, but carries its own values into the digital world: self-determination, diversity and human dignity.

Sounds utopian? It isn’t. But we are currently heading in the opposite direction – and that has concrete consequences:

The problem: Why today’s internet is making us sick

1. Digital addiction as a business model
2. The World Health Organisation (WHO) officially recognises computer and internet addiction as a disease. Why? Because the gatekeepers (Google, Meta, TikTok, etc.) make their money by keeping us dependent. Like drug dealers – except that we produce the drugs ourselves (our data, our attention) and then sell them to us.
3. → Consequence: isolation, echo chambers, political division.
4. AI as a tool for conformity
5. Algorithms reward mass compatibility, not expertise. Those with the loudest voice are heard – not those who offer the best solutions.
6. → Consequence: We are losing the ability to think critically and are becoming free data suppliers.
7. The power of gatekeepers over governments
8. When a few corporations have more capital and influence than states, they determine what information we see – and what disappears.
9. → Example: Have you ever heard of ‘WAN anonymity’? A technology that would enable data protection and true diversity? No? That’s exactly the problem.

My key experience: How everything could be different

35 years ago, I discovered that illiterate people learned to read when they uncovered each word with a card (individual letters or groups of letters) to the extent that they felt confident they could comprehend – not according to a standard curriculum, but individually.

The same principle applies to the digital world:

• AI must promote individuality, not suppress it.
• Digital education must allow for diversity, not conformity.
• We need digital property rights so that everyone can benefit from their expertise.

But instead of implementing this, my work has been blocked for 24 years.

Why? Because the power of the gatekeepers is so great that they can even control governments such as North Rhine-Westphalia to suit their own interests.

The solution: Europe can do better – if we act now

My petition to the European Parliament (1134/2025) shows how we can counteract this:

• ‘Finder technology’ (European patent since 1999):
• The only search engine in the world that rewards diversity instead of echo chambers.

• It works with meaningful language units (not keywords, but meaning).
• Connects 2,500 languages so that every specialist can find like-minded people – worldwide.
• Makes real trendsetters visible (the best contributions in 1,000 categories), not the loudest.

WAN anonymity:

A technical standard that guarantees privacy and security – without surveillance.

→ Advantage: No more manipulation by corporations or governments.

Digital intergenerational contract:

So that digital value creation benefits everyone – not just a few billionaires.

EU-D-S (European Digital System):

A decentralised European network that transfers pre-digital freedoms to the internet:

• Self-determination instead of dependence.
• Human creativity instead of AI egalitarianism.
• Real knowledge instead of fake news and echo chambers.
